when the Bay of Bengal branch of SW monsoon enters into the Indian landmass, it goes parallel to the Tamil coast without shedding off any moisture in the state. This is practically during the initial monsoon months, i.e. late May-early June. This branch goes straight to North-East India then, where Garo, Khasi, Jaintia and Mizo hills act as barriers to the moisture laden winds of the Bay of Bengal branch. Hence, it sheds off the moisture

The moisture laden winds from India ocean start their journey towards mainland of India. These winds are obstructed by Himalayas in the north. As its effect, these winds start their return journey towards the south. Thus Tamil Nadu receives rain in November.
