Why does tap water conduct electricity and distilled water does not?

The tap water have ions present in them due to chlorination. Therefore it conducts electricity. Distilled water don't have ions present in them and hence they don't conduct electricity

For the conduction of electricity freely moving charged particles or ions are required.
Distilled water doesn't contain any dissolved impurities and distilled water by itself doesnt produce or liberate ions.
Whereas tap water contains ions of magnesium , calcium , chlorine , sodium salts and other impurities which help in ionic conduction of electricity.
