Answer: Iswaran was Mahendra's servant who followed him everywhere for Mahendra's work. He would cook delicacies for him and could grow vegetables out of barren land too. Iswaran was fond of Readingthriller books and would read it to Mahendra. Mahendra would too listen to the stories with attention. So author says Iswaran seems to more than make up for a tv in mahendra quarters as he would do what a tv does by helping him pass his free time

The author says that because he was a great entertainer for junior supervisor. He chats with him at night and tell endless stories to junior supervisor and junior supervisor enjoyed listening to the stories. so he never felt bored and he don't need TV for entertainment.
