One of the most popular and common postures where Buddha is shown sitting with crossed legs is double Crossed legged position . It is also known as Double Lotus Position . In the double legged position , both palms are resting on his knees. This stance of Lord Buddha is also known as meditation Buddha since this particular posture represents meditation and is believed to be used by Lord Buddha when he attained Enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India .

@ns.... We can commonly see that the most of the statues of Buddha are in the position of crossed legged by him which is also called double lotus cut....
This is the sign of a mahatma person who got this enlightenment and just ready for gave his wisdom to others...
Buddha used to gave the speeches and the wisdom to others in that position which gave him a free and resting condition as down knees...
