When, the chimney becomes hot, the uneven expansion occurs in the glass body of the chimney due to the thermal expansion.
When we suddenly pour cold water, the temperature of the glass chimney instantly goes down and uneven contraction of the glass starts taking place.
This fast and uneven contraction, is intolerable by the fragile glass and it breaks
