the clouds are not black they are dense through which light can not be passed that's the reason.

the clouds are very thin. They are made of tiny droplets and let a lot of light to get pass through them so they appear white. But when a lot of cloud come together they form a thicker cloud a let only a small portion of light to pass through it. This is the reason why the clouds look black before raining.
