When an iron nail immersed in the solution of copper sulphate, iron displaces copper from the solution of copper sulphate because iron is a more reactive metal than copper. Therefore copper sulphate solution colour changes from blue to pale green. The name of this reaction is “displacement reaction” where a more reactive metal replaces the less reactive metal in its salt solution to form a compound.
