why does the colour of potassium permanganate not disappear when excess is added

when excess is added colour does not change bcoz there is no more alcohol left and hence there is no reaction....

Hello dear,
I think, this question is in reference to oxidation of alcohols by alkaline KMnO4.

● Explanation -
- When an alcohol are treated with alk.KMnO4, it gets oxidized to first aldehydes (ketones) and on further oxidation carboxylic acids are obtained.
R-CH2-OH + [O] --> R-CHO
R-CHO + [O] --> R-COOH

- In this reaction, when excess alk.KMnO4 is added, but there's no more alcohol available for reaction.
- Thus color doesn't disappear on addition of excess KMnO4.
