Why does the colour of the water turn blue after copper sulphate is applied?

CuSO4 , though white in its anhydrous form, readily forms a pentahydrate (CuSO4. 5H2O) that is blue. In water, it dissolves to form the aquo complex ion [Cu(H2O)6]2+, which also produces a vivid blue colour in solution.
