Why does the compass needle get deflectd when brought a current carrying conductor?

the compass needle get deflected because the current carrying wire produces magnetic field around it .

Compass needle is made up of a magnet .The earth is a big magnet and interacts with the magnet in the compass showing directions. now the current carrying conductor produces a magnetic field which has stronger interaction with compass needle compared to the earth magnet.
