This question is from Father to Son by Elizabeth Jennings.
The father says so because both of them don’t share a warm relationship. The father has tried to develop loving relationship with his son, but the son does not seem to care for it. He has not responded to his father's initiatives. He behaves with him like a stranger. Whenever they are together they remain silent.
