Why does the forest floor recieves less sunlight?

The forest are mostly covered with dense trees.  These dense trees have their branches spread wide and their leaves are dense as well. This makes very less sunlight reach bottom of the forest floor.

This is because the leaves of the trees above are so dense that they block any sunlight from reaching the forest floor. As a result, it is dark and most plants do not receive enough light to perform photosynthesis, which is how plants make food out of water, carbon dioxide and sunlight.
