Why does the govt promote neem coated urea in agriculture?

a) Release of Neem oil in the soil increases nitrogen fixation by the soil microorganisms

(b) Neem coating slows down the rate of dissolution of urea in the soil

(c) Nitrous oxide, which is a greenhouse gas, is not at all released

Neem-coated Urea dissolves slower unlike normal Urea which prevents leaching. In 2015, the Government made it compulsory for the producers of Neem-coat 75 per cent of the Urea they produce. It is believed to check the diversion of the fertiliser (which is highly subsidised) to the chemical industry also.
