The growth of plants occur only in the specific regions than contain meristematic tissues. They are of three types – apical meristem, lateral meristem and intercalary meristem.
Apical meristem is found at the tip of the plant.
Intercalary meristem is found in the internodes, leaf blades and leaf bases.
Lateral meristem is found in vascular cambium and cork cambium.
