The Happy Prince could see that the seamstress's little boy was lying ill with fever and was asking for oranges. She was working and had nothing to give to him but river water. She was sad and her I'm boy was thirsty. So the Happy Prince sent a ruby for her.

The swallow puts the ruby on the table and fans the baby with it's wings.
