Why does the highest rainfall occur in Mawsynram?
Answers
Answer:
Three reasons can be cited for high rainfall at Mawsynram: The warm moist winds of the northward-moving air from the Bay of Bengal during the monsoon, which cover an extensive area but are forced to converge into the narrower zone over the Khasi Hills, thus concentrating their moisture.

Well, behind everything that happens, there has to be a reason , be it a leakage in the tap or in the clouds above Mawsynram, Meghalaya . Now let's find the reason behind the wettest place on planet earth . Let's do some briefing :-
1. Mawsynram is a village in north -east India that lies on the crest of a V- shaped valley in Khasi hills in the state of Meghalaya , 65 kilometres from Shillong .
2. Indian sub continent has tropical monsoon type of climate . 80% of India receives rainfall in the South -West Monsoon Season .
3. Now during summers as the land gets heated more than water , Low pressure is created in the Indian landmass as compared to High pressure conditions in the adjoining Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea to the Western and Eastern side of India respectively .This attracts Winds from these Indian Ocean . The Winds flow towards the east but when they cross the equator , they change their direction from east to west due to Coriolis force , entering the Indian subcontinent as South -West Trade Winds.
It happens In the month of June -September .
4. Now the southwest monsoon bifurcates due to tapering south india into Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal branch . IT IS THIS BAY OF BENGAL BRANCH WHICH ULTIMATELY CAUSE RAIN IN MAWSYNRAM , MEGHALAYA
5. Bay of Bengal branch now remains parallel to south western coast of India and moves upwards , While carrying moisture as it moves over the Bay of Bengal . Now it strikes the Arakan hills in Myanmar and moves upwards straight towards the state of Meghalaya.
6.Now the Bay of Bengal branch full of moisture strikes the Garo , Khasi and Jaintia hills .
