Why does the hydrochloric acid secreted by gastric glands not damage the stomach wall????? PLEASE ANSWER FAST I HAVE AN EXAM ON MONDAY.

Because there is a layer of mucus on the inner side of stomach it protects the stomach inner wall from HCL acid

The stomach produces special cells to protect itself from being digested.The epithelial cells which secret mucus protect the stomach from the HCl. Two main reasons :- First :- Lining of epithelial cells of stomach continuously regenerate themselves and are replaced in every three days, So cells underneath remain protected from the harsh environment of churning stomach sac. Second reason::- Mucus made by epithelial cells forms a thick lining on the inner Stomach wall and acts as a barrier for the stomach lining against the acid. Hope it will help you.
