the energy required to remove a loosely bound atom from its last shell of the atom is the definition of ionization potential. increase in nuclear charge means that the atomic size is small so the atoms are attracted towards the nucleus with greater force and so more of energy is required to remove the atom from the last shell of the atom and so I.P. is increases with increase in nuclear charge
