Why does the iron nail become brownish in colour and the blue colour of copper sulphate solution fades? The following chemical reaction takes place in this Activity- Fels) + Cuso, laq) - FeSO,(aq) + Cu(s) 11.24 Copper sulphate) Tiron sulphate) In this reaction, iron has displaced or removed another element, copper, from copper sulphate solution. This reaction is known as displacement reaction. Other examples of displacement reactions are + Cuso (aq) ZnSO (aq) + Cu(s) Copper sulphate) (Zinc sulphate) Pb(s) + Cuci, lag) PbCl(aq) + Cu(s) 11.26 Copper chloride) [Lead chloridel Zinc and lead are more reactive elements than copper. Answer:

When an iron nail immersed in the solution of copper sulphate than iron displaces copper from the solution of copper sulphate because iron is more reactive than copper. Therefore copper sulphate solution colour changes from blue to pale green.
