why does the IUPAC name of CH3Cl is "Chloromethane" why not "Chloromethyl"? I'd asked it earlier but not understand (I am in class 10)​

Answer:

Dear we can use this word methyl when it is connected

in branching, when it is a substituent then we give it name methyl .

But here it is in the straight chain,not in branching

So it will named as methane as it contains One Carbon atom so Meth

and there is one bond then Ane

And the functional Group is always written as first

So it will become Chloromethane.
