When soap is added to water, micelleformation takes place, this is because the hydrocarbon chains of soap molecules are hydrophobic while the ionic ends arehydrophilic and hence soluble in water.

Answer :-
First of all, what are Micelles?
Ans - Micelles are the aggregations of molecular ions in soaps and detergents.
Formation of Micelles :-
When soap is added to water, the hydrophobic tail of soap does not get dissolved and gets aligned along the surface of the water with the ionic end inside the water and the hydrocarbon tail out of the water, resulting in the formation of a cluster of molecular ions called Micelles.
Extra Information :-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Micelles will not be formed in ethanol (Alcohol) as soap will get dissolved in ethanol.
- Micelles trap (attract) dirt, grease oily spots, etc.
- The collected dirt, when washed with water, gets easily removed.
- The oily dirt that is collected at the centre of the Micelles, forms an emulsion in water.
