Since the moon lacks an atmosphere, it is difficult to retain the required heat by the sun. Thus, extreme temperature fluctuation is observed.

There is not an atmosphere on moon therefore during its cyclic rotation when it away from sun it becomes very cool and when it comes close to Sun it becomes very hot.

Moreover in the absence of vegetation and water there is no check on atmosphere control.
