Answer:

The narrator had a terrible experience flying that old plane. Moreover, he couldn't settle himself after the scary flight. He was much relieved after the plane landed. Hence, he said that he was not sorry to walk away from the old Dakota.

He was delighted to land safely out of dark stormy clouds, so, he was not sorry to walk away from his plane. He felt bad, when he was no able to thank his guide, who guided and saved him from that frightening situation, but he was so happy after landing that he didn't feel sorry for not being able to thank the guide pilot.

Answer:

He was not sorry to walk away from his Dakota because he was really delighted to land safely out of the storm clouds. He really wanted to thank the pilot of the black aeroplane who guided him out of the storm clouds. But the lady in the control room contradicted his version of narration telling him that there were no other aeroplanes flying that night, except his. This made him to think that all other things happened during his journey was not as important as he is safe landing.
