Explanation:
Landforms affect where people build houses and communities. Many people live on plains because it is easy to travel and to farm on flat land. Other people live in valleys, which are the land between mountains or hills. The soil in valleys is good for farming.

The causes for uneven population are:
- Physical Factors: rugged mountain terrain as in Jammu Kashmir or lack means of transport as in Arunachal Pradesh are primarily responsible for sparse population.
- Harsh Climatic Conditions: Snow-covered regions like Jammu and Kashmir and very hot regions such as Rajasthan invite less population.
- Plain Terrain: Place with rich fertile soil good rainfall and moderate climate like Kerala and Uttar Pradesh are highly populated states.
- Economic Factors: Regions become densely populated where ample scope of starting business prevail with good transport, trade and communication.
- Political factors: States providing security, peace and stability also become very densely in a long run.
