salt in ocean from rocks on the land. rocks contain certain minerals. the rain that falls contains some dissolved carbon dioxide from surrounding air. Sodium and chloride are salty which are mostly found in rocks as minerals.

Basically the salt in the ocean comes from rocks on land.

When it is raining and the fresh water meets land, it contains some dissolved carbon dioxide from the surrounding air.

As a result of this chemical reaction with the rainwater there is a slight acidic reaction due to carbonic acid (which forms from carbon dioxide and water).

Chloride and sodium react together to make the ocean salty.
