Why does the pitch of the sound depends upon the length and thickness of a vibrating string? ​

The pitch of a sound is directly proportional to its frequency which varies with the length & the thickness of the vibrating string. Sounds of low frequency are said to have low pitch whereas sounds of high frequency are said to have high pitch.
