why does the poet say that some part of the moon is missing?

the beginning of the third stanza the poet says that the full moon is shining in the open sky in the fresh night. ... As the trees move outside, they cover some of the shine of the moon and it can be seen only in parts. That is why, it seems that moon has broken into pieces.
