The poet reminisces about his childhood in a sentimental manner. He evokes positive memories of his childhood by talking about the sun shining through his window, the beautiful roses and violets, the euphoria of soaring high on a swing, and the tree planted by his brother. Interestingly, the poet does not dwell completely in the past; he makes it a point to talk about the present albeit in a weary manner. The poet basically talks about all that he misses as an adult. He rues the loss of his innocence and carefree days. As a child he imagined the tops of the fir trees touching heaven. Now older and wiser, he realises that as a child he was closer to heaven than he ever can be as an adult. Though deeply nostalgic, this poem is neither pensive nor sorrowful, but makes us relate completely with the poet's point of view that he still misses his childhood.
