the poet want to passers by to stop or gently pass because he don't want to disturb the maiden who was singing very beautifully and in the poets opinion she was singing a sad song.

The poet doesn't want the passers to stop the solitary reaper who was singing in the mountain region.. and he want the tried travellers or passers to pass the way gently without disturbing her.... Her song was so melodious and even though the poet "William wordsworth" couldn't understand the language in which the maiden was singing melodiously... he understood that she was singing a sad song which pleasing the ears of the poet and he just compared her song with the nightingale and cuckoo
