Polarise, the north star, appears stationary in the sky because it is positioned close to the line of earth's axis projected into space. As such, it is only bright star whose position relative to the rotating earth does not change . the pole star appear to be stationary Because it is situated in the direction of the earths axis . If we locate this star and note its position, we can come back in a few hours, days, or years and we will always find it in the same place.
