The Happy Prince referred to the suffering of people as more marvellous than anything else as he wanted to help them

Explanation:

"The Happy Prince and Other Tales" is a collection of children's stories by Oscar Wilde. Happy Prince refers to a prince who used to be happy when he was alive. But after his death, his statue made of gold was placed in a high and prominent position in his city. The statue and a bird that lands at his feet have an imaginary conversation whereby the Prince says that he can now look at all the sufferings in his kingdom. So he asks the Swallow to take the rubies and sapphires from his statue leave it at the houses of people who are suffering. The bird does as said and feels sad that the statue can no longer see as both the sapphires meant for his eyes have now been removed. So he decides to stay forever with the statue instead of flying to Egypt as planned.

The bird describes the things he sees to the The Happy Prince. The statue asked the Swallow to tell him marvellous things, but added that nothing is more marvellous than the suffering of people. He was keen on knowing about the people who suffered and wanted to help them.
