Why does the raised mercury level not fall down after the bulb is cooled in such thermometer

In clinical thermometers, there is a small bent at the bottom of the tube containing mercury. ... The kink prevents the mercury level from falling down on its own. Due to this, the temperature does not decrease immediately after removing the thermometer from the mouth.
