Causes of smog in residential areas
First of all, we need to know what is smog?
Smog is actually a form of air pollution. It is actually fog e.g. water droplets in air accompanied by smoke e.g. dust or pollution particles in air.
Mechanism of the formation of smog
Nitrogen oxide, Particulate matter (PM10 & PM2.5) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when acted upon by sunlight produce smog.
What causes smog?
There are several causes of smog. Such as
- Use of coal as fuel in the household for cooking or industrial boilers.
- Use of fossil fuels.
- Natural causes like forest fires.
- Burning of the agricultural remains.
- Fireworks also contribute.
Why residential areas often get smoggy?
Since residential areas have all the essential sources for the emission of particles that are responsible for the formation of smog e.g. fuel emissions from traffic and cooking, industrial emissions and dust. Therefore, they often get smoggy.
