Why does the shadow always form on the opposite side of the source of light?

when the light travels in a direction and it is blocked by an opaque object, it does not allow the light to pass through it because of which the image(shadow) is formed on the opposite side of the source of light.

when light is blocked by an opaque object, it does not pass through the object. ..so the net effect of this is a shadow always forming opposite the source of light. there is no portions passed by light. if an object is transparent to light a very light shadow is formed
