As we all know, trees don't move. Even if they wish to, they just can't. But the earth is revolving around the sun as well as around its own axis which causes change in its position with respect to the giant fireball. Thus, the angle at which light is obstructed by the trees changes by the day which further causes a change in the shape of the shadow formed by the tree.
Shadows are the longest in the early morning and the afternoon whilst it is the shortest at noon.
