Why does the smoke from a factory does not keep rising forever?

Because usually, there is a fire that produces the smoke. This fire generates heat, increasing the temperature of the surrounding air. Now hot air is lighter than cold air, and begins to rise upwards. This rising air pushes the solid particles upwards against gravity.
