The author took the two boys to their destination. These boys worked hard day and night. They seemed to earn pretty well yet they did not spend much. The author thus wondered what these boys did with their money.
When the author was directed to the large villa many thoughts gushed his mind. Did these poor boys live here? Did they save money here? Did they come to meet someone rich? The condition of the boys never matched with that of the villa. Thus the speaker 'scarcely believed his eyes'.
