Because it CAN...........
....
The sun is a massive hydrogen gas giant which has... temperatures and pressure high enough to start and sustain the process of NUCLEAR FUSION... thereby... two light nuclei of atoms r fused into a bigger more stable nucleus..with the production of immense quantities of heat...
a fraction of this heat is witnessed by us.
