bcz the temperature is used up in changing the state of the matter .i, e the heat energy is converted into kinetic to overcome the force of attraction between the particles.

Here the phase transition that is SOLID &LIQUID
SOLID TO LIQUID it is melting and LIQUID TO VAPOUR it is boiling.so to change from one phase to another heat is being totally utilised .and hence there is no change in rise in temperature.and this temperature remains constant
