Why does the temperature of a substance remain constant during melting and boiling even when heat is being supplied to it continuously?

as the heat is used to change the state. this kind of heat is generally known as latent heat of energy

Hey !! Here is the answer that you need :

The temperature does not rise even on continuous heating and remains to be constant because the heat gets used up in changing the state of matter and overcoming the inter-molecular forces of attraction therefore it is assumed that the heat gets hidden into the contents of the beaker and it is known as Latent heat of vaporization (boiling) and Latent heat of fusion (melting)
