Why does the temperature of the substance remain constant during its melting and boiling point?

Answer:

Latent heat is called evaporation heat or boiling heat. That is because when it reaches the boiling point or melting point , the substance starts changing into other state , for eg : water when reaches 100 C it starts melting ie changing it's state so the temperature at that moment remains constant.
