why does the temperature remain constant during change of physical state of matter?

Let's understand this taking an example of a solid , say ice.

As ice is a solid , it has strong inter molecular forces of attraction ,i.e , its molecules are tightly bind together. When it is heated , the molecules gain kinetic energy and start vibrating . Then , the molecules start going far from each other . This is called melting stage , this is the stage where the solid starts melting into liquid. The temperature remains constant because the heat is being used to break the mutual forces of attraction between solids.

is It write question.... when the solid change into liquid into gas at the constant during change because the the physical matter is changing but the matter is that which was earlier... so, the temperature will not change....
