During the change of state, the heat energy supplied to the substance is consumed in changing the state of matter or substance.

Further, this force is utilized in breaking the bonds or strong forces existing between the molecules of substance or matter. This heat is called the latent heat.    

Thus, the energy provided to the substance is utilized simultaneously without affecting the temperature of a substance.
