why does the teperature of a susbstane remain costant duringits meltig point and boling point? explain, also name this phenomenon and prepare a report on its application in daily life?

during the change of the state of a substance at its melting or boiling points the temperature remains constant because the heat energy which is supplied to the substance is used up in overcoming the force of attraction present between their particles. as a result thermometer does not show any rise in temperature till the entire substance undergoes change of state.
