Why does time occur twice in a unit of acceleration?

this happens because

a=v/t

v=distance/time

a=distance/time/time

thus time appears twice

intuitively we can say that acceleration is the rate of rate of change of distance.

by using the formula of acceleration,

a= v final - v initial/ t final - t initial

here You can see that,

unit of velocity is in m/s (metre/second)

and unit of time is in s (second)

so , a = m/s÷s

a = m/s*s

a = m/ s^2
