why does turmeric become yellow when rinsed with water

Turmeric is a natural indicator which becomes reddish brown when washed with soap, which is basic in nature. However on rinsing with freshwater, the base in the soap is washed off, and hence, turmeric changes to yellow colour, because of its indicating property
