Having returned to his kingdom Ithaca after an action-packed journey and eventful past, he finds little pleasure in a ‘still hearth’. Ulysses wants excitement; he longs for the days of his youth and the mark he has yet to put on history. In the fourth stanza he gives a rousing speech to the sailors , "To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.” His line "hungry heart" is along these sentiments. He wants to stay hungry for adventure and excitement. He doesn't want to grow old, wasting away by a "still hearth" when he has life left in him.
