Assuming carbon weighs same as 12 hydrogen atoms and each carbon is bonded to 2 hydrogen atom, 10g of ghee would have somewhere around 8g of carbon and 2 gm of hydrogen and other impurities. We will ignore impurities for the moment.

When ghee is burned, the 2g of hydrogen combines with 16g of oxygen to produce 18g of water(in gaseous form). This can be verified by counting the molar masses.

Similarly, 12g of carbon combines with roughly 32g of oxygen to produce 44g of CO2. The given 8g would produce about 2/3 of that number, or about 29.3g of CO2. The reality would be 10% -20% different from this calculation as fat is not just carbon and hydrogen. And some of it evaporates instead of burning.

This is basic chemistry from class 10. I have seen several prominent news anchors propagate the lie that burning ghee produces oxygen. I feel that this is a crime and an insult to teachers and students everywhere. I am sure none of the writers of vedas would approve this mindless propagation of lies in their name.
