Why does water have different properties than its constituent elements?

It is so because water is a Compound which retains their individual property .H2 burns with pop -up sound , oxygen is the supporter of Combustion While water neither burns nor is a supporter of Combustion .In fact it is a coolant .
H2 + O2 = H20 which is Water !!
