Why does water logging kill plants

Waterlogging occurs when roots cannot respire due to excess water in the soil profile.

Waterlogging occurs whenever the soil is so wet that there is insufficient oxygen in the pore space for plant roots to be able to adequately respire.

As they are unable to respair properly they die and this is how waterlogging kills plants and hence it's harmful..

Water logging kills plants.

It is because plants respire with the tiny root hair present in their roots . So, due to water logging plants cannot take desired gases from the soil because the air spaces in soil is already filled with water.

Hence, the plants die.
